New Scientific Publication Highlights the Benefits of Toyocerin in Laying Ducks

Research published in Veterinary Sciences demonstrates improvements in egg quality, gut microbiota diversity and environmental sustainability

A recent scientific study conducted by researchers from Naresuan University (Thailand) and published in the peer-reviewed journal Veterinary Sciences (MDPI) highlights the positive effects of Toyocerin® (Bacillus toyonensis BCT-7112T) in laying duck production.

The study evaluated the impact of dietary supplementation with Bacillus toyonensis on laying performance, egg quality, intestinal microbiota and environmental parameters in laying ducks.

Improved Egg Quality and Egg Mass

According to the publication, supplementation with Toyocerin significantly improved several productive parameters in laying ducks, including:

  • Egg mass
  • Egg quality characteristics
  • Overall productive performance

These findings confirm the potential of Bacillus toyonensis as an effective probiotic solution to support productivity and animal health in commercial laying duck operations.

Positive Impact on Gut Microbiota Diversity

The research also demonstrated that Toyocerin increased the diversity of the cecal microbiota in laying ducks.

A more diverse intestinal microbiota is associated with:

  • Better gut stability
  • Improved digestive function
  • Enhanced resilience against intestinal challenges
  • Better nutrient utilization

Supporting intestinal balance through probiotic solutions is becoming increasingly important as the poultry industry moves toward more sustainable and antibiotic-reduced production systems.

Reduction of Ammonia Emissions from Litter

In addition to productive and microbiological benefits, the study showed that Toyocerin contributed to reducing ammonia emissions from litter.

Lower ammonia emissions can help:

  • Improve barn environmental conditions
  • Support animal welfare
  • Reduce environmental impact
  • Enhance working conditions in production facilities

These results reinforce the role of probiotic-based strategies in improving both production efficiency and sustainability.

A Science-Based Alternative to Routine Antibiotics

The publication concludes that Bacillus toyonensis BCT-7112T represents a positive and science-based alternative to the routine use of antibiotics in laying duck production.

As the animal production sector continues to seek sustainable solutions, probiotics such as Toyocerin provide valuable support for:

  • Gut health
  • Productive performance
  • Microbiota balance
  • Environmental management

We are proud to see Toyocerin supported by independent scientific research and contributing to the future of sustainable poultry production.
